HEART OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AWARD RECIPIENT
LIEUTENANT DAN HERMAN – CALCASIEU PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE
In March 2016, the Nibletts Bluff area was devastated by flood waters from the Sabine River. Lt. Dan Herman lost his home to the flood, but rather than address his own personal loss, he worked tirelessly helping others. When Sheriff Mancuso and Commander McGee offered him time off to address his own needs, Lt. Herman politely declined saying, “This is my community. I’ll worry about myself when this is over.”
Rebecca Johnson who works with Lt. Herman said he never once put himself or his wife before those around him. He continued to work nonstop in spite of his loss. It was four months later, before Lt. Herman turned his attention back to his own needs and finally reestablished the beginnings of his home. This demonstration of selflessness, loyalty and commitment is truly remarkable.
