HEART OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AWARD RECIPIENT
SERGEANT RANDAL LEGER – LAFAYETTE POLICE DEPARTMENT
Sgt. Randy Leger has been caught in the act – an act of kindness that is. He was spotted buying breakfast for a homeless woman that he has known for a long time. He considers the woman a friend. Sgt. Leger was captured on film as he sat with her and talked so she would feel loved and know she had a friend.
Sgt. Leger and his family frequently bring warm blankets, sleeping bags and food to the homeless during the cold seasons in downtown Lafayette. Victoria Leger describes him as going “above and beyond his call of duty to perform everyday acts of kindness just to make people smile. It doesn’t matter who they are or where they came from. He sees them as people like everyone else.” Sgt. Leger’s acceptance and concern for the well-being of his fellow man is admirable.
